Liska’s Role in Jewish Spiritual Heritage
From the 19th century, Liska has served as a focal point of Jewish community and tradition. Annually, thousands of pilgrims visit Liska, honoring Tzvi Hirsh Liska’s memory. The village hosts more than 500 Jewish historical sites, including cemeteries and places of worship that represent a rich heritage. In the 1800s, about 3,000 Jews lived in Liska, forming a rich and vibrant community. Liska’s legacy has reached nearby towns, notably Kerestir, impacting Jewish life in Hungary. Each year, nearly 5,000 people visit Liska, attracted by its historical and spiritual landmarks.
Preservation initiatives for Liska are driven by both local and global support.
